Spira

Sylvester

  • Welcome to our gallery, where we present to you 'Spira', a magnificent contemporary abstract stone sculpture that has been inspired by the beauty of African nature. Crafted from green Leopard Stone, this hand-carved sculpture is a true testament to the skill and creativity of the Shona artist, Sylvester.

This stunning piece of art was showcased at the recent sculpture trail at the Bishops Palace in Wells, where it became an instant favorite amongst visitors. 'Spira' is a large garden statue that is perfect for outdoor display, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication to any garden or outdoor space.

Sylvester learned his art form at Tengenenge, the birthplace of Shona sculpture. His work is characterized by a deep respect for nature and a keen eye for detail, which is evident in every curve and contour of this beautiful sculpture.

'Spira' is a truly tactile piece of art, inviting the viewer to reach out and touch its smooth surface, to explore its intricate patterns and to experience the beauty of the natural world in a whole new way. Its abstract form is open to interpretation, allowing the viewer to engage with the sculpture in their own unique way.

Whether displayed in a garden, on a terrace or in a public space, 'Spira' is sure to be a stunning talking point, capturing the imagination and inspiring wonder in all who see it. Come and experience the beauty of 'Spira' for yourself at our gallery today.

While depictions in African stone sculptures may repeat, the patterns in the Leopard stone cannot be replicated, making each large garden statue unique. The artist carves the stone using a diamond tipped chisel. It is then sanded for hours through varying degrees of sandpaper until smooth. The sculpture is then heated and a polish is melted into the stone. Finally it is buffered to leave a wonderfully tactile surface, almost irresistible to touch. Enquire today on 0800 772 3253 or get in touch by email,

  • Silvester is one of our leading artists. Living in the region of Guruve in the north of Zimababwe, Silvester has chosen to remain true to his roots living only a short distance from the Great Dyke and Tengenenge, the area from which Shona sculpture originated. Shying away from the mainstream selling avenues, Silvester chooses to remain from where he grew up being inspired by his family and the environment in which his art grew.
